Kidcents - Helping Kids

Helping Kids

Rite Aid has long been committed to helping kids. Through our long-standing support of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and other Rite Aid Foundation efforts, we have raised and donated millions of dollars to help kids across the nation, but we knew we could do more.

That’s why we launched KidCents, a program that allows Rite Aid customers to round up their purchases to the nearest dollar and donate their change to charities in our communities committed to improving the health and well-being of children.

Thanks to all of you, it’s clear that we are making a difference. Read some of our inspiring stories below.

RENAISSANCE YOUTH CENTER:

Changing communities, one song at a time.

In August 2001, two everyday guys living in the Bronx decided to start a movement. Bervin Harris and Darren Quinlan became unhappy with how their city was using funds for after-school programs. Instead of just complaining about it – they did something about it and started The Renaissance Youth Center. The center is deeply rooted in the belief that through the power of education, music and sports you can make change and help the children of the Bronx reach their full potential, and then some.

The Music With A Message youth band (MWAM) is a project through the Renaissance Youth Center. MWAM consists of 25 of the cities brightest, most passionate performers directed by Mr. Bervin Harris. Studies prove that music greatly influences the attitude, thoughts and actions of today’s youth. Too often, the messages being sent is not positive and it is MWAM’S mission to change that by spreading positivity in communities where hope has gone missing.

Your support through KidCents will culminate expansions of programs such as: Music On Wheels, Music With A Message and the enhancement of afterschool centers and college-prep programs.

The drive and motivation shown by two individuals has made incredible change for children right in their community. We are proud to have The Renaissance Youth Center as an official KidCents Charity.
