2017 has been another year packed with educational and social activities at the Boys & Girls Clubs of La Habra.
One of our favorite highlights in 2017 was a unique opportunity for twenty-two of our teen members to take part in a Northern California Gear Up 4 College trip. Along with 22 teens from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Whittier, the group was accompanied by six staff members from our Clubs on the four-night trip. They toured UC Santa Cruz, San Francisco State University, University of California at Berkeley, and Stanford. They also took in cultural sites such as the Golden Gate Bridge and museums.
To further enrich the experience, the group arranged to spend the night at local Boys & Girls Clubs in the Bay Area. This was a great opportunity for teens from all of the Clubs to meet each other and share their Club experiences.
The teens were very excited to see campuses that are not only famous, but very different from the local colleges they have visited in Southern California. At each school, they were on student-led tours that gave them insight into campus life, major points of interest, and requirements to attend that school. They came back with enthusiasm and high aspirations to explore colleges and take steps to prepare for the application process.
We would like to sincerely thank KidCents and the Rite Aid Corporation for their generous support of our youth. We are grateful to have partners who believe in our mission of helping children grow to reach their full potential as responsible, caring, and productive adults.
