As part of its ongoing commitment to improve the health and well-being of children living in the communities it serves, The Rite Aid Foundation is partnering with Operation Warm to provide warmth, confidence and hope to children in need through the gift of brand new winter coats.

During the month of October, over 125 Rite Aid associates will deliver a total of 2,200 brand new winter coats at special “Coat Giving Celebrations” at four schools in Harrisburg, Detroit and Seattle. Together, The Rite Aid Foundation and Operation Warm will make an immediate and meaningful impact for hundreds of families in these communities.

School-aged children are particularly vulnerable to the low temperatures and biting winds. The brand new winter coats provided by The Rite Aid Foundation will not only help to improve the children’s health and lower their risk of getting a winter cold, but also help to advance their overall wellness, self-esteem and education.

  • Overall Wellness – It’s hard to play outside, make snow angels, or just be a kid without a warm coat. All children should have a chance to stay active year-round.
  • Self-Esteem – Giving a child something brand new creates a sense of pride in ownership that fosters self-confidence in children who may feel insecure.
  • Education – The best way to break the cycle of poverty is through education. New coats help children get to school more often on cold and rainy days.

Additionally, these brand new winter coats will remind children and families that their community cares about their well-being and their future. The gift of brand new winter coats will bring a smile to the faces of so many children, while also alleviating a financial burden for their families.

“More than 16 million children live in poverty across North America, so we are incredibly grateful to corporate partners like The Rite Aid Foundation that not only donate the funds for the brand new winter coats, but also recruit employee volunteers to help deliver these gifts to children in their communities,” says Kirsten Bradley, associate director of corporate partnerships at Operation Warm. “Delivering the brand new winter coats in person to the children will be incredibly rewarding for the Rite Aid associates and a memorable experience for all involved.”

The Rite Foundation is one of several corporate partners that Operation Warm works with to give away hundreds of thousands brand new winter coats across North America each year. Thanks in part to the support of corporate partners like The Ride Aid Foundation, Operation Warm has given away more than three million brand new winter coats in the past 20 years.
