With the help of nearly 200 volunteers on-site, the Richstone Family Center partnered with KaBOOM! and JetBlue on November 1st to build a brand-new playground in just six hours. Based on drawings from Richstone kids, the new space is designed specifically with the community in mind and will allow for more than 800 kids to receive all the physical, cognitive, creative, and social benefits of outdoor play. Volunteers spent the day mixing concrete, spreading mulch, and building playground elements. A ribbon cutting ceremony followed to celebrate this great addition to the child abuse prevention center.
Since the opening of the new playground, our students and families have greatly enjoyed the addition of this new outdoor play space to our community. Kids of all ages are spending more time engaging in imaginative play with one another everyday afterschool. The playground has also brought disguised learning of problem solving and sharing with the challenge of two swings and 40 Kids Club students.
KidCents allowed us to have a Thanksgiving Day of Play with our Kids Club families. We celebrated the holiday of thanks with a Thanksgiving feast and an evening of family fun outside. Everyone enjoyed being able to celebrate with one another while being active as a family.
