Since 2007, Downtown Boxing Gym Youth Program (DBG) has provided an after-school program as a safe haven for inner-city Detroit children. Boys and girls, aged five to eighteen, from throughout the city receive transportation, healthy meals, academic support, training, mentorship and exposure. Through education, athletics, mentoring and intervention, Downtown Boxing Gym empowers Detroit youth to be positive and productive members of society.

They continue to maintain a one-hundred percent high school graduation rate, with the vast majority of students pursuing post-secondary education. The main goal is to help each student graduate from high school with expanded expectations for their futures, including college, career training, and healthy, productive adult lives. Students prepare school projects, study for exams, and complete supplemental materials provided by our academic coordinator.

Athletics provide students with the platform to learn about perseverance, long-term planning, focus, determination, humble victory and learning through defeat. Even beyond those lasting life lessons, boxing provides the opportunity for one-on-one mentorship with founder, Khali Sweeney. Shared time with Khali is invaluable as he shares life lessons and continues to encourage healthy lifestyles free of drugs, incarceration, violence, and aggression.
