The Center for Grieving Children
Want to donate to this charity?

The Center for Grieving Children helps children grieving a death heal and grow through their grief, while strengthening families, communities, and professionals’ understanding of how best to respond to their needs.

To fulfill this mission, The Center provides free grief peer support groups to children ages 4-18 who have lost a close loved one. As the only organization of its kind in the City of Philadelphia, The Center provides free Center-Based grief groups in various locations across the city, including East Falls, West Philadelphia, and South Philadelphia. At the same time the children meet in developmentally appropriate groups, The Center also offers peer support groups for the children’s parents or caregivers. All of these groups are run by master’s-level trained clinicians and assisted by extensively trained volunteers. The Center also provides free Community-Based grief groups in public and charter schools around the city for those that are unable to attend Center-Based groups. After these 8-week groups end, the children and teens are welcome at any of the Center-Based locations. Often, the youth have forged bonds with their fellow group members that last well beyond the 8-week group. Finally, The Center realizes that it cannot reach every grieving child in the City of Philadelphia. Therefore, The Center offers reduced-cost trainings to front-line professionals including DHS workers, social service agency professionals, social workers, and school counselors who interface with grieving children and their families on a daily basis.

The Center for Grieving Children brings hope to grieving children throughout Philadelphia. Select The Center for Grieving Children for your KidCents donations to support kids and to bring hope to Philadelphia’s grieving youth.
